Why NDAA Compliance Matters for Routers
In March 2026, the FCC added all foreign-manufactured consumer-grade routers to the Covered List. Newly produced routers manufactured outside the United States can no longer receive FCC certification, be imported, or be marketed in the US without special authorization. This affects virtually every consumer router brand — including TP-Link, GL.iNet, and most Netgear and ASUS models manufactured in China.
Section 889 of the FY2019 NDAA separately prohibits federal agencies and contractors from using telecommunications equipment from Huawei, ZTE, Hytera, Hikvision, Dahua, and their subsidiaries.
